STRAW DOG: a starting place; an idea or story or project whose elements take initial form and are rearranged many times in a process of exploration, revision and discovery.

The New York Times called the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts

.

Welcome to Straw Dog - supporting the writing community in Western Massachusetts by strengthening, engaging and connecting writers at all levels of development.

.…the most author-saturated, book-cherishing,

literature-celebrating place in the nation.

as

We embrace this legacy, and strive to sustain it through Straw Dog Writers Guild: a literary hub for writers, readers, and literature-lovers in Western Massachusetts.

..

There may be no better way to say it…

You grumbled and we listened.  Back in the fall of 2013, Straw Dog decided to charge a small fee for our craft presentations – $5 for members and $15 for non-members for a ninety minute presentation on some aspect of writing craft. Why did we do this? Because we are committed to paying writers for their work, and lots of work goes into preparing and delivering a presentation. Attendance fees helped to pay the writer for their time and expertise, and sometimes for the rental as well.

 .

But we heard a seismic grumble about this so we are returning to our original approach, which is “Donations warmly accepted.” So like Public Radio and Public TV, we will gladly accept donations and we understand when circumstances prevent people from giving.

 .

Your generosity at the programs, and your membership, will now be even more critical if Straw Dog Writers Guild is to continue current programming, and expand our offerings. We exist solely through volunteer help, membership fees, and your support.
